A lot of people have recently been expressing that, in general, they quite enjoy working with Merb. The only real pain has been dealing with all the dependencies. By fixing all those small issues has been the focus of these past years. Customers will be quite happy with the new bundling solution that has been released with Merb 1.0.5. Mad props to Yehuda for all the hard work put into this.
Rails and Merb Web frameworks merged
Open-source development projects - Rails and Merb merged their framewors into the coming Rails 3 release. Web frameworks Rails and Merb have decided to end their rivalry and join their forces in a single project. Both are open-source framework libraries for developing Web-based services and applications on base of Ruby programming language. Rails project has been started since 2004, while Merb earlier same year as what many see as a more faster and lightweight alternative for Rails.
Merb history
Merb was started some years ago by Ezra Zygmuntowicz open source developer as a small framework to serve ERb templates from Mongrel. Then this project quickly grew into much more and carved out a niche as an alternative Rails framework. Merb-ists focused on other things as small and turbo speed core, being ORM/JavaScript agnostic, and having a rigorous API for various extensions.
